Scholarship applications due February 17, 2012

Applications for the Crops for College Scholarship and the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau Scholarship are now being accepted online.  The application deadline for both scholarships is February 17, 2012. 

The applicant of either scholarship must have been a resident of Marshall or Putnam counties for the full 2 years immediately prior to the date of high school graduation and must be a member of the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau for this same two-year period.

IAA Foundation offers scholarships to support agriculture, Illinois Farm Bureau Families

Agriculture students and Illinois Farm Bureau members and their children may apply for college scholarships offered by the Illinois Agricultural Association Foundation.  Fifty-six scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 per year, will be awarded in total of $104,900 for the 2012-2013 school year.  Completed applications must be postmarked on or before February 1, 2012.

Private pesticide applicator testing and training slated

 

A PSEP testing-only session will be held at the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau Building on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  University of Illinois Extension – Bureau, LaSalle, Marshall, Putnam Unit is offering three testing-only sessions. Pre-registration is required.

Amendment to Cemetery Care Act reduces regulatory burden on smaller cemeteries

In response to unfortunate problems that surfaced at the Burr Oak Cemetery in the Chicago area, the General Assembly passed legislation in 2009 creating new regulations for cemeteries.  While changes may have been necessary, the new regulations were especially burdensome for small cemeteries.

College Day for Agriculture held at M-P Farm Bureau

On November 16th, students from high schools in Bureau, Marshall, Putnam and Stark counties attended the 5th annual College Open House at the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau building.  Representatives from the Agriculture Departments of Black Hawk College, Illinois Central College, Illinois State University, Illinois Valley Community College, Parkland College, Joliet Junior College, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Western Illinois University participated in the event.

Directors elected at Annual Meeting of M-P Farm Bureau

The 92nd Annual Meeting of the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau was held on November 14, 2011 at Capponi's Restaurant in Toluca.  Seventy-five members and guests attended. 

Directors elected to serve two-year terms were:  Bob Fecht - Bennington Township, Chuck Holz - Evans Township, Luke Holly - Granville Township, Nathan Webster - LaPrairie Township, Jim Shanklin - Roberts Township, Bill Campion - Saratoga Township, Jonathan Downey - Senachwine Township.

Congressman Aaron Schock visits Henry, Illinois

United States Representative Aaron Schock (R-Peoria) began his day on August 22nd in Henry, Illinois where he hosted a Listening Session at the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau Building.  Over 130 residents from Henry and nearby communities turned out to discuss a wide range of issues with the Congressman.  During his 1 1/2 hour session, Schock discussed the Federal Deficit, Social Security and Medicare and listened and responded to questions and comments from the audience.

MPFB Young Leaders holds "Crops for College" tractor drive

This year was the 4th annual "Crops for College" tractor drive.  It was held on June 12 in conjunction with the M-P Antique Association Annual Show.  The parade started at Johnson's Grove Park in Lacon and traveled throughout Marshall County before ending back at the park.

McNabb Fire Department Receives Grain Bin Rescue Tube

Thanks to the generous financial support of various agricultural groups in the community, the McNabb Fire Department has received the "Extricator" Grain Rescue System.

The MPFB Women's Committee holds its Annual Health Fair

The MPFB Women's Committee held its annual Health Fair on Thursday, March 31st, for members of the Marshall-Putnam Farm Bureau.  Over 100 people took advantage of this event which is held annually in March.
